Autunno 1943. Rosa Sauer, giovane donna in fuga da una Berlino devastata dai bombardamenti, raggiunge i suoceri in un paesino isolato vicino al confine orientale. Qui scopre che nella foresta confinante si trova il quartier generale nazista noto come Tana del Lupo. Per ordine delle autorità, Rosa e altre sei donne vengono prelevate per servire come “assaggiatrici”, costrette a degustare ogni pasto destinato ad Adolf Hitler per verificare che non sia avvelenato. Mentre affrontano quotidianamente la paura della morte e la fame, tra loro si intrecciano legami di solidarietà, patti segreti e amicizie che mettono a nudo la complessità dei rapporti umani in tempo di guerra.
In autumn 1943, Rosa Sauer, a young woman fleeing bombed Berlin, arrives at her in-laws’ isolated village near the eastern border. She soon learns that Hitler’s secret headquarters, the Wolf’s Lair, lies in the nearby forest. By order of Nazi authorities, Rosa and six other women are taken to serve as “tasters,” forced to sample every meal intended for Adolf Hitler to ensure it has not been poisoned. As they face the daily fear of death and hunger, bonds of solidarity, secret pacts and friendships form among them, revealing the complexity of human relationships during wartime.
