Twenty years after the release of Twilight, American director Catherine Hardwicke will return to Ischia as President of the 23rd edition of the Ischia Global Film & Music Festival, taking place July 6–13, 2025.
The announcement was made by Tony Renis, co-founder of the event, which has brought the stars of international cinema and music to the Gulf of Naples every summer since 2003. The festival is produced by the Accademia Internazionale Arte Ischia, with the support of Italy’s Ministry of Culture (DG Cinema e Audiovisivo) and the Campania Region.
After being honored in 2023 alongside actress Toni Collette at the Ischia preview of Mamma Mafia, Hardwicke now returns as host of the festival in a year that marks the global celebration of Twilight’s 20th anniversary—with special editions of the novels and fan events around the world.
Her filmography includes Lords of Dogtown (starring the late Heath Ledger), Thirteen, and many other titles that reflect her deep attention to youth culture and emotional storytelling.
An architect, screenwriter, producer, and scenographer, Hardwicke is also known for her passion for Italian art and history, and for her deep affection for Naples, Campania, and its creative talent.
“Her contribution will bring extraordinary value to the festival,” say the organizers.
The 2025 edition will once again make Ischia a key hub for dialogue between Hollywood and Italian cinema. For eight days, the island will host free screenings, premieres, and retrospectives of the season’s hits, along with conversations with film and music industry leaders across cinemas, piazzas, and iconic venues of the island.
As always, the festival will be accessible online via MYmovies.it and Eventive.org, and will feature the Social Cinema Forum, focusing on today’s most urgent global issues.
A vent’anni dall’uscita di Twilight, la regista statunitense Catherine Hardwicke torna a Ischia come Presidente della 23ª edizione dell’Ischia Global Film & Music Festival, in programma dal 6 al 13 luglio 2025.
Lo ha annunciato Tony Renis, co-fondatore dell’evento, che dal 2003 porta ogni estate nel Golfo di Napoli i protagonisti dello spettacolo internazionale. Il festival è prodotto dall’Accademia Internazionale Arte Ischia con il sostegno della Direzione Generale Cinema e Audiovisivo del MiC e della Regione Campania.
Dopo essere stata premiata a Ischia nel 2023 con l’attrice Toni Collette in occasione dell’anteprima di Mamma Mafia, Hardwicke torna al Global Festival in veste di padrona di casa proprio nell’anno in cui si celebra, in tutto il mondo, il ventennale di Twilight, con edizioni speciali dei romanzi e iniziative per i fan.
Nel suo percorso artistico spiccano anche Lords of Dogtown (con il compianto Heath Ledger), Thirteen e tanti altri titoli che mostrano il suo sguardo attento sulle tematiche giovanili e il racconto emotivo.
Architetta, sceneggiatrice, scenografa e produttrice, è una donna di cultura appassionata dell’arte e della storia italiana, e profondamente legata a Napoli, alla Campania e ai suoi talenti.
“Il suo sarà un apporto al festival di grande qualità”, assicurano gli organizzatori.
Il dialogo tra Hollywood e il cinema italiano torna così al centro sull’Isola Verde: per otto giorni si alterneranno, a ingresso gratuito, anteprime, proiezioni speciali, rassegne dei successi della stagione, incontri con star e protagonisti dell’industria dell’audiovisivo e della musica, tra cinema, piazze e luoghi iconici di Ischia.
