Per Trudie Styler, il cinema è da sempre arte e impegno sociale. A pochi giorni dall’inizio delle riprese del suo nuovo film da regista con Antonio Banderas, la regista e produttrice britannica è arrivata a Ischia Global, “dove tutto è nato”, per guidare il Social Cinema Forum. Il tema scelto per questa edizione è: Pace e Rispetto vs. Bullismo e Prevaricazione, con riflessioni anche su diritti civili ed eco-sostenibilità, battaglie che Styler condivide da anni con il marito Sting.
Styler ha colto l’occasione per celebrare la messa in onda, il 9 luglio in seconda serata su Rai 1, del suo docufilm “Posso entrare? An Ode to Naples”, disponibile dal 10 luglio su RaiPlay. “È una bellissima collocazione, forse inusuale per un documentario, ma sono molto orgogliosa del risultato. Il film è su Disney e viene visto in 33 paesi del mondo”, ha dichiarato Styler, affiancata dall’attore Francesco Di Leva e dal figlio Mario, premiati con l’Humanitarian Award, insieme a Dario D’Ambrosi, fondatore del Teatro Patologico.
Styler ha annunciato anche il suo prossimo lungometraggio, il secondo dopo Freak Show (2017): si intitolerà “Rose’s Baby” e racconterà la storia di una coppia di divorziati disfunzionali. Come sempre nei suoi progetti, anche questo porterà un messaggio sociale.
E su un possibile nuovo film italiano? “Napoli è nel mio cuore. Ci torno spesso e ogni volta scopro storie nuove. Sto pensando a un soggetto legato a un preciso momento storico della città, ma è presto per parlarne. Intanto, sono felice che chi vede il mio film in tutto il mondo rimanga affascinato da Napoli. Credo di aver contribuito a cambiare la percezione internazionale della città, troppo a lungo fraintesa.”

For Trudie Styler, cinema has always been both art and a tool for social change. Just before starting production on her new feature film with Antonio Banderas, the British director and producer returned to Ischia Global, “where it all began,” to chair the Social Cinema Forum. This year’s theme: Peace and Respect vs. Bullying and Oppression, with panels also dedicated to civil rights and environmental sustainability, causes she actively supports with her husband Sting.
Styler celebrated the July 9 broadcast of her docufilm “May I Come In? An Ode to Naples” on Rai 1 (late night) and on RaiPlay from July 10. “It’s an unusual slot for a documentary, but I’m very proud of it. The film is also streaming on Disney and available in 33 countries,” she said, joined by actor Francesco Di Leva and his son Mario, both recipients of the Humanitarian Award, along with Dario D’Ambrosi, founder of Rome’s Teatro Patologico.
Styler also announced her upcoming feature film, her second after Freak Show (2017), titled “Rose’s Baby”, about a dysfunctional divorced couple—once again with a strong social message.
Is another Italian film on the way? “Naples is in my heart. Every time I return, I find new stories. I’m developing an idea set during a key moment in the city’s history, but it’s still early. I’m just happy that audiences around the world are discovering how special Naples is. I believe I’ve helped shift its reputation—too often misunderstood.”
The 23rd Ischia Global Film & Music Festival is produced by Pascal Vicedomini, organized by the Accademia Internazionale Arte Ischia, and supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture (DG Cinema and Audiovisual), the Campania Region, the Ministry of Tourism, with partners ENIT, Givova, Rainbow, and Caremar.
